My Sister's Wedding

And Finally..Here is the Concluding part of the blog post on My Sister's Wedding. Hope you guys have Enjoyed it uptil here and would like this one as well. Oh, and included are some photographs taken by the photographers at the wedding. Was really Overwhelmed by the pics when i finally got em. Had to carefully choose the ones below, in order to include every part of the wedding (plz do remind me if i ve Missed out on something). I do hope you would like my sincere efforts.
N now, getting on with My Sister's Wedding....

Dinner Time, it was finally here. But with the Indian twist. The groom’s side was seated in the arrangement as is called Sajan-Kot and we, the bride’s side, were to make sure they eat well. Or rather, that they Over-eat well. We were to make sure they are served everything on the menu. Ok..not really everything, that wasn’t feasible, but Maximum for sure.
And that’s exactly what we did.
Even me, the shy guy, was able to stuff a full paan in jijaji’s mouth ;) Ofcourse, there must ve been other achievements too, but I hardly remember that much.
Oh, and I nearly forgot the most important part and believe me when I say, I’m fitting this in here One day after I had actually written everything else :D
While trying to offer dishes, I finally got the lovely opportunity to make my sister eat from my hands. Gosh, I still remember how I used to be adamant to eat from her hands and she would lovingly fulfil my wish. And last time that this happened was not so long ago, just a few years down the memory lane. I was just so overwhelmed with happiness when I took that small jalebi and rabri to her mouth.
Oh, and I gave a bite to jijaji too, soon after that J

After the groom’s side was finished with dinner, it was our turn to settle down and satiate our tummy’s to our heart’s content. But that is hardly possible in Indian weddings. However much hungry you might have been, you’d opt out pretty soon.
Had quite some nice stuff with one of the bhabhi’s – some exotic fruit from brazil and, what I ordered for her on her request, Kandhari Naan. Both actually turned out to be very nice.

Right after their dinner, the Groom’s family and friends started pressing our side of family to be leave for home. They surely had a valid reason in the form of long distance to travel.
But how could have that wish be granted. There was still so much left to do. Not exactly in the form of rituals, but some fun games that are played by the new bride and groom. And after a lot of requesting and persuasion, they were forced to wait..Yeaaaaaahhhhh!! J

The games session started by playing what is called Kangna, where-in the groom has to un-tie numerous knots in a woven thread, called Kangna, tied to the bride’s wrist, and the bride has to do the same to the groom’s kangana. I couldn’t really see the game proceedings but it sure was fun.
Next up was the Ring-game. This time, a ring was put in a deep vessel, along with some water, milk, flowers, petals, grass; in order to disguise it. Both the bride and groom had to put their hands in the vessel and find the ring. Sure it sounds Easy, but I guess it’s actually not how it sounds. Anyways, seven rounds were played and finally my sister emerged out a winner. Not that I would ve been sad had she not won. I’d ve simply said my Jijaji emerged out as the winner ;)
Now was the time for jijaji to recite Chhand – small poem types, and get gifts from the brides mum. Again, I couldn’t hear clearly coz of the crowd.
Anyways, I have my own factory in my mind, to produce fresh Chhand. In case any groom needs assistance or gets stuck At the moment of recital, please contact me ;)
There was one more game involving some small mud vessels that were to be be crushed by jijaji using his foot, while one of the bhabhi’s tried to remove it with a stick. This one was super fun too and jijaji managed to crush most of them.

So far and very good. But now was the time everyone dreads – Vidai!! When the bride actually leaves with the groom and everyone gets anything but emotional.
Just that happened at Krishna Greens. Every eye had tears, either rolling down or just visible, but they were there. The day had definitely bought innumerable happiness to the Shikhar Parivaar, but the pain of parting could not be concealed. With a heavy heart, everyone hugged Aditi. Elders gave her blessings and we the younger ones just showed her our love.
At this time, there was no issues, there were no differences in our family. The grief of Vidai ruled us all alike. But that is what is the law.
Aditi and Nitin jijaji were sent off, we brothers pushing the decorated car slightly, as a sign of endless love and support to our sister.
Most family members stabilised soon after the moment was over. But to our amusement, two little  kids of our family had gotten too emotional and couldn’t control their feelings. They cried, even after everyone tried to calm them.

That was the end of a wonderful day, an amazing ceremony and a superbly planned and executed event.
But it was just a Start of a beautiful relationship – Aditi and Nitin.
AND, my favourite sister was now married. I’m definitely very happy for her. And I am sure our grandfather would be extremely happy as well, wherever he would be J J J

My Sister's Wedding

Hope you all liked the first part of my post on My Sister's Wedding, though i never got any responses :(
Anyways, here is the Second part of my write-up. Hope you ppl will like this one as well. Do leave by your comments.

Coming back to where I was, we were told to check the Baraat’s assembling point, whether
people there were being served properly. But rather what happened was completely opposite. Soon
after we reached the assembling point, one of the incharges there started bringing snacks for us on
trays himself. He kept his point saying You people as organisers wont get any time to really Eat. He
requested us to simply Taste all items. Ofcourse we could Eat any of them if we liked, but there were
just Toooo many to even think like that.

No more than 15 minutes after we returned back to main pandal, the baraat was already at the entrance. All us brothers went out to get the groom off his ghodi and onto the stage, with the Dholis rocking their beats, the DJ playing his own music for groom and two girls showering rose petals on the grooms path to stage. The groom himself stood inside a fancy dome and carvings kinda enclosure which moved behind him all the way to the main stage.

While a pooja continued on the stage, I had ample lot of time to meet my new friends – the beautiful American couple dressed in an Indian flavour. I helped enhance the flavour by getting the male counterpart to tie a pagadi. Unfortunately for me, I had to rush after setting them up at photo studio, after which he removed his pagadi and I couldn’t click a pic L
Oh.. Have I Missed that part, regarding the Photo Studio?? Actually, a photo studio kinda setup was kept at the marriage venue, with a background, the flash umbrellas and stuff, where guests could get a family picture clicked. The photos were transferred to a computer kept there, for you to choose your best picture from amongst the multiples clicked. They were printed and put in a nice frame and given back to you.
I saw their picture after they got it finalized, and it was simply beautiful.
Oh, I got a pic of mine too. And, even though I got lots of compliments And “Comments” (regarding the picture being for matrimonial purpose, which I am still getting to hear or read), I simply Hate it – as usual. Dam, I am sooooo Non-Photogenic ;)
Was called upon by cousins to accompany the new bride – my sister, in room where she waited till we had to take her on the stage. The moment arrived soon and we took her outside, with all cousins and cameras waiting. She walked alongside all sisters and bhabhis, while we brothers held a sort of fancy wood carved thingie over them.
Gosh, and I ve got to be honest here. With those photographers taking all the time in the world to click their share of photos not allowing us to walk further towards the stage, my hands and shoulders were literally torn apart, keeping them in the upward position. But anyhow, the pain didn’t really bother me That much as it might otherwise would have.

Now was the time for the Var-Mala and me and one of my younger cousin sisters accompanied the couple, as did some other people from the groom’s family.
As I already mentioned before, the event organizer’s inexperience played bad for us and his fireworks and rose shower didn’t do the amazing job that was expected of it.  Anyways, that didn’t stop this from being an amazing moment..Simple and Elegant!!

Denying all requests from photographers, the couple was taken for the Phere. The aim had always been to finish with all ceremonies well in time, rather than doing it in the odd of the night. And so it happened. The pooja with the groom started soon after that, followed by the bride joining the pooja and all the traditional offerings being made by whosoever required.
And then were called bride’s brothers for Phere. We were now to stand on the corners of the mandap and assist the couple (mainly our sister) during the Saat-Phere, gently holding their arms till the next person holds it. And so we did.

All the wedding rituals were now done with and the couple was officially Married. Now was the time for photographs, both of the couple and with the couple. And for us, it was time to Eat something – again.

Oh, and all this while, I was in regular interaction with my new friends, trying to be a good host, though I know I am a very bad one L

Met my younger sister’s friends – just two of them actually. Had already met one of the 2, the previous night at sangeet ceremony. And to my surprise, she actually recognized me ;)
Anyways, after a small interaction, I left them and went off to remove my pagadi, finally. Oh, and that’s when I received a confusing compliment by my sister, who told me “Why did you take it off, All the girls who had yet not mustered up courage to come to you, would Pounce on you”. I swear it took some minutes for that to make sense to me. But, ultimately it was a compliment. Or so I think J

My younger sister had given me an envelope of money she got from groom’s side for some ritual she performed, to return to her later, along with a rose being given to guests at the entrance. Even though I had plans to party with the money, I did otherwise and gave it to her mum. Oh, and the flower was given out too. To her own friend that I had met last night and now again today, all this done with utter sincerity and apologies to the other friend I met just now. First Come First Served, you see ;)

After a round of photos with the couple and my cousins friends together, I felt like an oldie with those kids and was back with my new friends. Oh and I pulled them all the way to the stage for congratulating the couple and getting a photo clicked with them. And again, someone called me just as I was about to hop on the stage with them.

My Sister's Wedding

16th November, 2011 – A day that might easily be classified as one of the Hard to forget days of my life. After all, it marked the wedding of my Favorite sister, Aditi. Oh yes, Favorite is rightfully the word for her, just like the way I can say she is the most Lovable of all my cousin sisters for me.

Ok.so on with the wedding. First, the venue – A lavish farm house lawn in Delhi, near Gurgaon-Kapashera border.

Oh, I just used the word that I will have to use All over this text. Yes..that word is Lavish. Coz that’s exactly what the wedding was, and again Rightfully so, it was a Big Fat Indian Wedding, with all the glamours and glitters.

So finally I reached the venue of the wedding with my family, kind of right on time, after a bit of looking out for the routes, even though they weren’t really difficult, just a tiny bit confusing.
And to our amusement, nothing at all suggested we arrived even a bit late. As  if this wasn’t all, what
was more amusing was that the groom had reached the venue with 4-5members of his family as
well, and was preparing for the pooja in the adjoining room provided to us.
Anyways, I could spot some familiar faces at some distance, thankfully, but just 2-3 of them. So they
Were all the people of our Huge Joint Family, that had actually reached before time to make sure the
arrangements were up to the mark. Some helpers at the venue were still busy decorating the place
or taking our family’s gifts for the groom inside the venue from cars.

Soon, more cousins appeared at the scene and we administered certain arrangements, just as the
guests started coming in. It seems the party Had begun. We started feeding our empty stomachs
with the numerous number of snacks being served. Just then arrived the guy who was assigned the
task to tie Pagadis to all the family males. And soon, I was wearing a golden colored pagadi, even though
people said it didn’t really match a lot with what I was wearing then – A Black Jodhpuri BandhGala.
Oh, and that reminds me, my Jodhpuri earned me so many compliments, right from when I reached the
venue, till the end. Infact, the Last one was actually quite a lot interesting too. Wish I hadn’t kept the
pagadi for a long time. Might have got me some extra compliments ;)

Anyways, let me now try to describe some of the decorations at the place. Well, to put it simply, it
was all Awesomely done. No doubts in saying, it was paid for with an equally astonishing amount
later, but that’s why its called a Big Fat Indian Wedding.
The main stage, where the bride and groom were to exchange VarMala was beautifully done with
uncountable number of flowers of various kinds. The stage actually had a staircase to go to a narrow
passage above the stage, which could have been used to throw flowers on the couple. And the
entire thing was decorated with no inches spared. I guess a picture would be much better than my
thousand words in this context.
Some fireworks were also planned at the stage, to be set off when garlands would be exchanged,
just like there was to be a Rose Petals Rain Shower from behind the stage. But ultimately they only
disappointed, maybe because the event managers were too inexperienced, unfortunately for us.

The Mandap, where phere were to be taken, was given a rather simple look and it looked elegant.
What interested me was the stadium like seating that was set-up for people to sit there and
watch the ceremony.
Another place worth noticing was the Lounge area, for people to sit down and relax, after having a
good dinner, or maybe just after the snacks or whenever else. Now, this place was chic modern in its
do, with fur used exceedingly well for a number of purposes, like fur carpets n all.

Oh, I completely missed the Food Court. Actually it was something that could jus Not be missed. And
not only coz it is Food, but also coz of its Size.
The caterer for the Wedding ceremony was Seven Seas, which is considered to be the Best in the
business for our kind of vegetarian food. And what is even better about this caterer is their
willingness to serve you food. All their employees, from waiters to captain was all ready to Serve you
whatever you desire, such is their spirit.
And the menu…..Holy Smoke!! I apologize but that is one thing I wont even try to recall. It was so
damn lengthy. You name a vegetarian food, and it was there. From all Indian cuisines to Chinese,
Italian, Mexican, and I’m not sure what else.
Exotic fruits, Domino’s Pizzas, Costa’s coffee..such is the elaborate menu served by Seven Seas and it
was all There.
So basically, food was one area which had everything and still cant really be discussed.
